Fastelavnsfest – Saturday February 18th 10.30am-12.30am

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Venue: St Peter’s Church Hall, Lutton Place, Edinburgh

The Danish playgroup is currently on hiatus but, as one of the group’s most popular events, we have decided to maintain this tradition. We have the tønde ready so it’s time for the children to start planning their costumes!

Traditionally juice, fastelavn’s bolle etc has been brought along by the parent’s attending. We would also ask that each family contribute towards the hiring of the hall. All of this is being arranged via email and at the moment we are ascertaining how many are able to make it along. If you would like to come along and join in what is always a really fun morning then please contact Jette Lemvig who has kindly agreed to co-ordinate this.

Anniversary Party – Saturday February 25th 7.30pm

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

On January 30th it’ll be 26 years since the Danish-Scottish Society was founded, so what better reason to have a party? Get your glad rags on, and join us at the Thistle Hotel in the centre of Edinburgh to celebrate. We’ve arranged some gaming tables and croupiers so while you have a chat and a drink you can learn how to play roulette or blackjack. It’s all for fun but there will be a prize at the end for the most successful player.

The first drink is on us and we hope to see EVERYONE there.

There is no payment required for this event. However, it’s important we know how many are attending so there is a sign up form at the end of the most recent newsletter or you can contact Maj-Britt to let us know you are coming.

Christmas Party – Saturday 26th November, 2 – 5.30pm

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Venue: St Peter’s Church Hall, Lutton Place, Edinburgh

Amazingly, it won’t be long until it’s Christmas – where has the year gone? However, it does mean that it’s time for the DSS Christmas party. Join us for some Christmas hygge with gløgg and æbleskiver and other traditional Danish treats. Purchase Danish Christmas goods and have a go at making traditional Danish Christmas decorations such as julestjerner and julehjerter. If you would like to sell any Christmas products, you can book a table for £5, but please let us know in advance.

Of course, as always, we will be singing and dancing around the Christmas tree and hoping that Santa will drop in for a visit. Please help Santa by letting us know in advance the names and ages of the children attending. This can be done by contacting Santa’s helper Katrine at jkrubenstein@hotmail.com before 20th November.

Christmas Trees – Danish Softwood has kindly donated 16 Christmas trees to the Society. These will be available for a minimum donation of £20 each and all monies will go to the Society.

If you would like a tree, they are only available by reserving one via Jeannette. They are available on a first come, first served basis and reservations should be made before November 24th. There will be no additional trees to purchase on the day so if you would like one please do remember to reserve your tree before coming along.

Please note that we will be unable to deliver trees this year and you will have to arrange your own means of getting the tree home.
