Burns Night – 24th January 2009 – 7 pm

Burns 2005

Burns 2005

Venue: Kingsknowes Golf Clubhouse, 326 Lanark Road, Edinburgh.

We are back at the Kingsknowes Golf Club for yet another Burn’s Supper. Come and join us for a traditional Scottish meal, drinking of Scotch whisky, and recitation of works by, about, and in the spirit of the Bard.

The 3-course meal comprises of celery and Lanark blue soup with crusty bread and butter, followed by haggis, neeps and tatties with an optional whisky and peppercorn sauce and finishing with a shortbread and Drambrui Frushie (A delightful mix of shortbread honey and drambuie served with freshly whipped cream and topped off with chocolate flakes). Vegetarian option will be available. Drinks are not included but can be purchased at a reasonable price at the bar.

We are planning to finish the evening with a bit of ceilidh dancing which was a great success last year.

It is easy to get to the Golf Club either by bus (route 44) or by car, as they have their own car park.

Price: £12 per person. Please sign up before 17.01.2009 using the sign-up form. Doors open at 7 pm and the Address to the Haggis will start at 7.30 pm.

Please remember that this night is not just about the meal. Its appeal is first and foremost the traditional speeches, although entertainment in form of songs, poem recitals and musical contributions are all welcome. Please indicate on the form or contact the committee by e-mail or phone if you wish to volunteer to do e.g. the Selkirk Grace, the Immortal Memory of Burns or something completely different.

NB! Please bring along any suitable raffle prizes you wish to donate, thank you.
