Flammen & Citronen – A film by Ole Christian Madsen
Featuring: Mads Mikkelsen, Peter Mygind, Thure Lindhart and Stine Stengade
Copenhagen, 1944, during the German occupation. While the rest of Denmark hope and pray for the war to end soon, Police Superintendent Winther (Peter Mygind) ensures that the most efficient operatives in the famous Holger Danske resistance group, known as “Flammen” (Thure Lindhardt) and “Citronen” (Mads Mikkelsen), are kept busy at every opportunity.
But when Flammen is ordered to execute his girlfriend Ketty (Stine Stengade), his convictions to the cause start to falter. In the fight for a free country, the lines between right and wrong are easily blurred, and it becomes ever more difficult to tell your friends and enemies apart…
Based on actual events, Flammen og Citronen is one of the most successful Danish films ever. With a hard-hitting and controversial storyline, the film takes a more balanced view on wartime Denmark to offer a fresh and different perspective, while the sublime acting and spectacular quality of production raise standards to new levels. Flammen og Citronen has it all: breathtaking pace, nerve-racking tension, love stories and plenty of action. Quite simply a world-class piece, straight from the heart of Danish history.
