Christmas Party – Saturday 26th November, 2 – 5.30pm

November 14th, 2011

Venue: St Peter’s Church Hall, Lutton Place, Edinburgh

Amazingly, it won’t be long until it’s Christmas – where has the year gone? However, it does mean that it’s time for the DSS Christmas party. Join us for some Christmas hygge with gløgg and æbleskiver and other traditional Danish treats. Purchase Danish Christmas goods and have a go at making traditional Danish Christmas decorations such as julestjerner and julehjerter. If you would like to sell any Christmas products, you can book a table for £5, but please let us know in advance.

Of course, as always, we will be singing and dancing around the Christmas tree and hoping that Santa will drop in for a visit. Please help Santa by letting us know in advance the names and ages of the children attending. This can be done by contacting Santa’s helper Katrine at jkrubenstein@hotmail.com before 20th November.

Christmas Trees – Danish Softwood has kindly donated 16 Christmas trees to the Society. These will be available for a minimum donation of £20 each and all monies will go to the Society.

If you would like a tree, they are only available by reserving one via Jeannette. They are available on a first come, first served basis and reservations should be made before November 24th. There will be no additional trees to purchase on the day so if you would like one please do remember to reserve your tree before coming along.

Please note that we will be unable to deliver trees this year and you will have to arrange your own means of getting the tree home.

Entry Fee: 50p per child and £1 per adult (includes a raffle ticket). This charge is purely to attempt to cover the cost of hiring the hall.

Sunday Brunch cancelled

September 12th, 2011

Brunch, Sunday 18th September, 10.30am

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances out-with our control, we have to cancel the brunch scheduled for September 18th. Apologies to those of you who had expressed an interest in coming along for the late notice of this.

We plan on rescheduling this and will let you know as soon as we have a date and a venue confirmed.

AGM – Thursday September 15th, 7.30pm

August 15th, 2011

The Annual General Meeting of the Danish-Scottish Society takes place at the Danish Cultural Institute, 3 Doune Terrace, Edinburgh at 7.30pm followed by cheese and wine.

One person is stepping down meaning the committee will only have five members. In order to maintain the standard and number of our events the committee really needs to be bigger. We will therefore be looking for volunteers to help us run the society. If you would like to help out or would like some more information please email the society.

Forthcoming events – Camping etc

August 15th, 2011

There are a number of events upcoming in the next month or so…

Film, Thursday 25th August, 20:35
Venue: Filmhouse, Lothian Road, Edinburgh
The Filmhouse is showing In A Better World (Haevnen), the winner of this year’s Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film and we thought it would be a good idea to meet up to see the film and perhaps have a drink. Please book your tickets yourselves and then contact Katrine to say you’re coming and to arrange meeting up.

Camping Weekend, Friday 26th – Sunday 28th August
Venue: Invernahavon Caravan site, Glentruim, Newtonmore, PH20 1BE
Our annual camping trip this year takes us to Invernahavon Caravan site, just off the A9, north of Dalwhinnie. This is a site we’ve been to before, there’s lots of space for the children to play in and also lots to visit round about so it should be a fun weekend. If you would like to join us please book your place by phoning the site on 01540 673534. To ensure that our pitches are all placed together please mention that you are a part of the Danish-Scottish Society group.

Brunch, Sunday 18th September, 10.30am
Venue: Jojo’s Bakery, 26 St. Mary’s Street, Edinburgh
We have arranged another Sunday brunch, this time at Jojo’s Danish bakers in Edinburgh (Menu). Places are limited to 12 people so please book your place early by contacting Katrine.

Pub Night, Saturday 8th October

Sankt Hans – Sat. June 25th, 7pm

May 27th, 2011

Venue: Dalmeny Estate, South Queensferry

Our Sankt Hans celebrations take place at the beach on the Dalmeny Estate again this year. As usual, barbecue food is provided and drinks will be on sale at the event. Please bring along your own blankets and picnic chairs (and perhaps a copy of Højskolesangbogen!). We recommend also bringing along warm and water proof clothing just in case the weather is not as kind to us as it was last year.

Please sign up by returning the cut off slip in the April newsletter, with payment, by June 12th.
